About Us

Flixton Community Brass Band is one of two bands, both run as a charity organisation (Charity No. 1142856). The community band teaches and supports brass musicians of all backgrounds, age groups and abilities. Based in Flixton, we practice Saturday mornings 10 to 12 and welcome new and old players to come and have a blow – See join us.

The other band is Flixton Brass Band, which has a significant history in the local area and was formed in 1877. Learn more about the Flixton Brass Band history on their own website >

More About the Community Band

Flixton Community band was formed in 2013 as a training band with the purpose of encouraging young and old players alike to learn an instrument and to be part of a brass band.

We have fun in a relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere with the goal of making some good music and progressing as musicians.

Age Range

Currently our young members range from 7 with our oldest member being 77 years young who actually started playing when 74. It is never too late.

Help & Tuition

We have a variety of players from new to seasoned, some of which have had a break for a few years before getting the bug again. Many of the senior members will happily help younger players with tuition, however, we have a number of tutors: –

  • Wendy Spencer
  • Denis O’Gara

Musical Director

Our musical director, Danny Lowery has been in brass bands since 1993 and has a BA in Music from Salford University. His modern approach to running the rehearsal and his eclectic taste in music keeps the band interested and motivated and is very well suited to a band with such an age variation and range of skill levels. Support & Donations

We are a charity and we support ourselves by doing a number of concerts each year and from the goodwill of people who make donations. See how you can help support us >

Money raised is used to run the bands, buy instruments, sheet music, and cover the running costs, teach and support new and existing musicians.

Concerts

Subject to availability, we provide entertainment at a number of local events and are available for private and public functions. We are happy to play at various events but request a donation. We do a number of concerts throughout the year and money raised is used to run the bands, buy instruments, sheet music, to cover running costs, teach and support new and existing musicians. Learn more at our book us page >
