We are always looking for players to join us. It does not matter whether you are completely new to playing an instrument and just want to have a go, have been on a break from playing or are an accomplished player. You will make new friends and meet people of all age groups, currently the age range is 7 to 77 years young. When you are ready, you will experience playing at concerts with the band and if you get really good and want to progress there is the option of joining our main band, the Flixton Brass Band.
Being in the band requires some work to master an instrument but it is fun and a skill that will enrich your life. You will make friends and we do have some social events throughout the year too (keep an eye on our blog for details of those).
Come and meet us
We rehearse in Flixton most Saturdays between 10.00 and 12.00 which includes a short break. Rehearsals are held at Flixton Junior School, Delamere Road, Flixton, M41 5QL. If you want to come and meet us at a rehearsal get in touch so that we can arrange to let you in as the school has security doors. Also, getting in touch means that we can inform you of any changes to the rehearsal times or days.
We would love to meet you and show you the band. You can come just for a listen if you are not sure, or better still come and have a try on an instrument. Don’t worry, we will teach you.
Does it cost anything?
It is free to come and have a go. We are more interested in meeting you and letting you find out whether playing a brass instrument in a band is the right thing for you. As a charity we do need to raise money and we do request that regular members of the band contribute a small donation for being in the band, receiving tuition and for use of an instrument. However, this is a low fee and we can look at this on a case-by-case basis depending on your circumstances, so don’t let this put you off.
There is also an opportunity to take music exams and receive recognised qualifications. There are a number of our members, both past and present, that we have put through ABRSM (Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music) exams with 100% pass rate so far.
Peace of mind
As a parent, you are allowed to attend the rehearsal and stay with your child if you like OR you are welcome to learn to play too 🙂
Anyone in the band providing tuition is DBS checked and apart from 1-1 tuition, which is only provided by vetted members, the rehearsal is in a communal environment in a local primary school.
